Item Description

Filament Theatre is an anchor cultural organization for the Six Corners business district in Chicago’s Portage Park. Filament Theatre creates imaginary worlds in which young people have agency and autonomy to explore and express the ideas they are passionate about – whether that’s new information, a challenging social situation, or a form of artistic expression.

At Filament, the word PLAY is both a noun and a verb. Our audiences join in our play at every step, from family dramaturgy workshops, to participatory pre- and post-show activities, to the performances themselves. All of our work is accessible to multigenerational and neurodiverse audiences.

Up for bid is (4) general admission tickets to Filament's Spring Season. This spring Filament Theatre has two shows in production perfect for the whole family. Choose from Heart Strings or Hannah and Halmoni Save the World (running from March 22-April 27).

Heart Strings
“A family is lots of ways.” Hoku and Mahina are sisters, hanai sisters. Though they are not related by blood, they will always be bound. It is not always easy growing up though, and when Hoku grows frustrated by her younger sister, she wishes her away. When circumstances take Mahina from the home she shares with Hoku, Hoku worries her wish is what sent Mahina away. A storm, some stars, and a guiding string help the sisters find their path as they grow up, and learn fully what it is to be family. From Von Marie Atchley Award winning Hawaiian playwright Lee Cataluna.

Hannah and Halmoni Save the World
Hannah and Halmoni are superheroes masquerading most days as granddaughter and grandmother. Fighting off the evil flute teacher and saving plants from dehydration the dynamic duo is the perfect pair– until they have to face Mom that is. Some problems require capes and some require conversations, but all problems can find solutions when grandma is there to hold your hand. From 2024 ReImagine Playwright Juliet Kang Huneke, co-created with young people through Filament Theatre’s new work pipeline.
