Item Description

These beautiful Yuki Torii black lacquerware plates with gold urushi painting are small appetizer size dishes, each with it's own design.

They were made in the town of Yamanaka Onsen, which is known for Yamanaka shikki, a distinctive lacquerware.

Urushi is a Japanese decorative technique that involves painting with urushi lacquer (derived from the sap of the urushi tree) to create intricate designs on objects. These dishes are made using the Maki-e technique, in which patterns are drawn with urushi lacquer on the surface of lacquerware, and then gold powder is sprinkled and fixed on the surface of the lacquerware.

Size: approximately 15 cm (5.8 inches)

Item Special Note

Use instructions: wash with hot or cold water and wipe with a soft cloth. Do not scrub with a scouring pad or abrasive powder. Store away from direct sunlight as it may cause deformation or discoloration.
